Northern Star is Jill Peacock's fourth studio album. It features five original songs that sound like 1960s psychedelia, drum and bass, and even country. Jill painted the cover of the album as a psychedelic nod to the Group of Seven: the famous Canadian painters who painted mostly the wilderness of Northern Ontario, which is the region the title track refers to. "Northern Star" is a guiding light, but is also a metaphor for Canada, Jill's home. Though not every song on this album is about Canada, the album is meant as reminder that music, and writing music, is Jill's guiding light. This album was released one month before the birth of her first child, and is even more meaningful as a reminder that she both an artist AND a mother.
